The volumes of Australian wines sold in bulk rose 9% last year. Figures published by AWBC (Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation) indicate that wines sold in bulk in 2009 reached a volume of 764 million liters (698 million liters last year). At the same time, sales of bottled wine fell by 53 million liters. The bulk accounted for 39% of sales volumes in 2009 against 26% in 2008.
The AWBC said this increase in bulk wine sales was mainly due to surplus crops that hurried the wineries to liquidate their wine stock, while the strong Australian dollar undermines the competitiveness of Australian wines on the international market.
It must include a tendency for customers in Australia, particularly the United Kingdom with cheap wines and friendly environment that is imported in bulk and bottled it on the destination or halfway. Read the Expert Opinion of Tim Atkins on the subject.
