Thousands to join Milo marathon-Angeles leg on July 22 Organizers distribute rubber shoes to less fortunate students

ANGELES CITY – More than 6,000 runners, athletes from various sports events and enthusiasts will join this year’s Milo marathon here on Sunday morning.

Rosever Pascua, head of the Angeles City Sports Office (ACSO), said at least 6,093 runners have registered as of yesterday (July 19). “Our target is 6,100 so we only have seven more slots but if there are still participants, I think we can ask for more slots from Milo organizers.”

Records from ACSO showed that at least 243 have registered for the 21k; 150 for the 10k; 4,700 for the 5k and 1,000 for the 3k category.

Most of the participants are varsity players and students from various private and public schools (college, high school and elementary) in this city.

The race (all categories) will start at the main gate of the city hall, near Marquee mall and will also end there. (please see map)

Milo organizers also distributed 500 pairs of brand new rubber shoes to less fortunate students of various elementary schools that include Belen Homesite, Cutud, Teodoro Tinio, Abelardo Tinio, and Pulungbulu.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting and city councilors are also expected to grace the event.

Members of the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, medical staff, volunteers and traffic enforcers are on standby for any untoward incident.

Pascua earlier said that proceeds from the event will be used to buy additional sports equipment for various teams who will compete and represent this city in next year’s Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA).

“We could also use the proceeds to buy tree seedlings for Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan’s One Million Tree project,” he said.
