Text drive vs criminality launched

ARAYAT — In an effort to preserve the peace and order in this first-class municipality, the local government unit (LGU), in coordination with the local police and 30 barangay chairmen, launched Monday the “Isumbong Mo Kay Kap” text drive.
Mayor Chito Espino said the project aims to provide a means of communication between his constituents and their respective barangay chairmen, kagawads and barangay police regarding any forms of crime in their area.
These officials in turn will report the incident to the local police for immediate action.
Espino said the project is the brainchild of Municipal Council member Sixto “Pogi” Mallari, chairman on peace and order, who donated 31 cellular phones and information materials regarding the said project.
He also encouraged concern citizens to report suspicious characters seen in their respective barangays to their local leaders, police and even his office, saying peace and order and crime prevention is not only the concern of the local government and law enforcement but the whole citizenry.
“I am calling on the public to help the law enforcers in fighting any form of criminality happening in the village. We need to cooperate,” Espino said.
Espino also lauded the support of US-based businessman Jun Santos, his wife Vicky and daughter Jhelsea who also donated 20 rubber boots and 20 raincoats to the local police force.
He said the Santos family, who hails from this town, has been very supportive in the various projects of the LGU, especially in maintaining peace and order.
He said the partnership between the local government and the business sector has been very harmonious, and has yielded positive results in terms of growth and development.
For his part, Vice Mayor Larry Trinidad said the hotline will not only be used to report criminality but can also be used during times of calamity.
Trinidad said barangay officials and the citizenry can give calamity reports to the Barangay Disaster Coordinating Council, which in turn will report the matter to the Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council headed by Espino.
Meanwhile, Councilor Mallari said that for those who wish to report suspicious characters or the occurrence of a crime, they can text the police hotline number 0906-776-4084.
Mallari said texters’ names will be withheld for their protection, as he urged the people to be vigilant in their surroundings, saying crime prevention is everyone’s concern.
At the same time, Liga ng mga Barangay president Julio Espino thanked the LGU and the private sector in partnering with the barangay chairmen in launching the “Isumbong Mo Kay Kap” text drive, saying the barangay is the first line of defense against criminality.
“Sa akin pong mga kasamang kapitan at mga ka-barrio, makipag tulungan po tayo sa ating lokal na pamahalaan at kapulisan para sugpuin at hulihin ang mga nais gumawa ng krimen sa ating mga nasasakupan,” he said.
