SF City youth told: ‘Be transformative leaders’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Mayor Edwin D. Santiago urged students of the University of the Assumption “to practice servant leadership and aim for transformation” in his keynote address during the recent 9th Religare Leadership Congress here.

“Leaders press transformation by changing the culture and that takes a lot of courage,” Santiago told some 200 student leaders from Central Luzon who gathered during the event.

Invited schools which joined the activity are Tarlac State University, Immaculate Conception of Olongapo City, Mary the Queen College of Guagua, St. Nicholas College of Business and Technology and the City College of San Fernando.

He also reminded the Religarians to “establish a good foundation, have strong faith and be active citizens of the society.”
The three-day event with the theme “Breaking Stereotype Leadership, Embracing Dynamism and Equipping the Youth with Global Competencies and Christian Values” is co-presented by the De La Salle University and will cater seminars on social responsibility, youth and Christian leadership and teambuilding sessions.

“Religare,” coined from a Latin word which means “to bind,” steps it up as it extends to the whole Central Luzon to enhance and empower student leaders in Region III.

“We are all one in transforming leaders into visionary leaders. We don’t want to confine leadership academically, [but] rather holistically.” said Precious Bernadette D. Estrada, Director for Student Affairs of UA.

“This is an avenue for us student leaders in order to acquire knowledge and skills to actively participate in nation building” said Jeremiah R. Gomez, UA Central Student Council President.
