Science high school site is corporation’s priority

CLARK FREEPORT — Executives of the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) are assuring officials of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) that the alternative site for the school’s Central Luzon campus based inside the freeport is among the priorities of the administration of newly installed CDC chief.
Mariz Mandocdoc, CDC assistant vice president for Permits and Licensing and Monitoring, said the corporation recognizes the importance of keeping the PSHS campus in Clark.
“It is among the first actions taken by top officials at the CDC to brief newly appointed CDC Chair and OIC Eduardo Oban Jr. about the Pisay campus’ current situation,” said Mandocdoc.
According to Mandocdoc, the CDC has offered two alternative sites to PSHS officials, the “institutional zone at Lilly Hill” and Bldg. 6376, which is located at the Philippine Air Force (PAF) area here.
On July 5, 2011, former CDC President Felipe Antonio B. Remollo and PAF 600th Air Base Wing Commander Brigadier General Fred Payawan agreed that Building 6376 and its surrounding vacant lots, the PAF occupied earlier, will be turned over to the CDC.
Soon after meeting with the PAF, Mandocdoc stressed that Remollo had immediately offered to Pisay officials to use Bldg. 6376, located at the Air Force City area, as an alternative to Lilly Hill.
However, PAF officials said they are still waiting for “a favorable decision” and approval from higher authorities in the Department of National Defense.
“Negotiations with the PAF for the use of Bldg. 6376 are still ongoing and since time is of the essence, it is imperative that the CDC provide Pisay stakeholders an area conducive to education, which is why we have expedited the development of Lilly Hill,” Mandocdoc said.
In May 2011, the CDC’s Corporate Planning Department (CPD) identified the institutional site at Lilly Hill, which is located in a prime location adjacent to the duty-free shops here.
According to the CPD, PSHS officials have signified their preference to the Lilly Hill area “over other areas offered by the CDC” since the budget allocation their Central Luzon campus here will expire at the end of the 2011 Academic Year.
Angelo C. Lopez, Jr., manager of the CDC Public Relations Department, reiterated the CDC’s response to PSHS officials’ request.
“The CDC, including the majority of stakeholders here in Clark, wants the Pisay (PSHS) Central Luzon campus to be based inside Freeport,” Lopez said.
“To have the Pisay Central Luzon campus inside Clark is a valuable contribution to the educational needs of the future leaders of the country,” he added.
He also stressed that graduates of the PSHS Central Luzon campus “could, likewise, serve as future leaders of the Clark Freeport.”
