School chief gets Dangal ng Bayan award

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The chief of Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC) has been given a Dangal ng Bayan award by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) recently.
Dr. Honorio Soriano, president of PAC, is now an awardee of the Honors Award Program of the (CSC).

Under his term, PAC provided some 3,143 scholarships amounting to P22.55 million from 2007-2011.
Aside from this, there were P11,727,407 in subsidy to students. All these were sourced out from external donors.
Soriano spearheaded the ladderization of five courses namely: agriculture, information technology, agricultural engineering, home technology, and hotel and restaurant management.
Moreover, BS Agriculture and BS Information Technology have four Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) accreditations in horticulture, animal production, programming, and PC operations.
With funding assistance from Tesda, 57 scholars availed themselves of these courses.
In addition, Tesda also granted P1 million in trainings in April 2010.
All undergraduate programs include subjects in entrepreneurship and business management to equip students with skill to start their own enterprises after they graduate.
Some P65.64 million was spent in the installation of state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and modern instructional materials. These were just a few of the outstanding innovations that Dr. Soriano introduced to PAC.
The CSC award was based on performance of regular functions and mandate but he exercises own initiative, creativity and introduces innovations in management.
