Power coop, firm ink pact for evacuation center
Saturday, July 30, 2011
MEXICO — Officials of Pampanga Electric Cooperative 1 (Pelco 1) and AES Philippines signed over the weekend a memorandum of agreement (MOA) and deed of donation for the turnover of the firm’s evacuation center at its offices here.
The evacuation center-cum-multipurpose hall was constructed through a “bayanihan” style effort of Pelco 1 employees and officials, with much help from AES, which poured resources for the concreting of the huge covered court’s flooring.
During the MOA signing and deed of donation turnover, Pelco 1 General Manager Loliano Allas said the consumer-members of the cooperative, as well as neighboring areas, would benefit from the evacuation center.
“I would like to thank AES for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs that help cooperatives like us. I am sure that with their help, we could continue providing assistance to people aside from affordable power rates we provide from Masinloc,” said Allas.
He said he hopes AES will continue reaching out, like programmed waiting sheds for folks in areas that Pelco 1 serves.
“It is such a fruitful partnership we all want to continue for the benefit of our consumers,” he said.
Pelco 1 board president Carlos de Jesus said the evacuation center fostered unity among the firm’s employees, as they had to construct it themselves without external help.
“We were able to harness their talents, skills and hard work with everyone doing their share. It was such a notable effort in putting up this evacuation center with the help of AES,” he added.
Chrysonogus Herrera, AES marketing director, in return said: “We have a commitment to you of about P2 million in terms of CSR. The waiting sheds are next but what you did with this evacuation center, with all your ‘pawis’ and tender loving care, could never be bought by money.”
“Like you at Pelco 1, we would like to help our customers get the best services and cheapest rates. I am looking forward to a continuing fruitful partnership,” Herrera said, adding such values like safety, integrity, excellence, commitment and fulfillment are all geared towards customer satisfaction.
AES Foundation Manager Cynthia Pantonal echoed the same sentiments and said: “Our partnership with Pelco 1 on CSR is really for economic development and meant to benefit people. We hope we could do more for our customers since we have programs for education, environment, health and many others, including the AES Academy. It is a fruitful partnership.”
While branding them as challenges, AES Power Marketing Manager Ronald Gutierrez punctuated it as “we at AES and Pelco 1 have been challenged time and again for the common good. But we know we could do it for the sake of our customers.” (Jovi T. De Leon)
