Palace cancels classes, government work in Metro Manila

MANILA (Updated 12:48 p.m.) — Malacañang on Tuesday suspended college classes and government work in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to heavy rains.
The suspension, effective 1 p.m., was announced by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr.
Also, classes in pre-school, elementary, and high school for public and private schools have earlier been suspended by the Department of Education (DepEd).
DepEd-NCR officer-in-charge Rizalino Rosales said classes were suspended after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced heavy rains are expected Tuesday due to Typhoon Kabayan and the new low pressure are (LPA).
He added that according to Pagasa, rains may be heaviest between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
The Pagasa, meanwhile, said “Kabayan” has slightly weakened as it remains in the Philippine Sea.
