Pagmamalasakit sa kalikasan, patuloy na tumataas

PALAYAN CITY – Patuloy na tumataas ang lebel ng pagmamalasakit ng mga Novo Ecijano sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan.

Ganito ang pagtaya ni Rev. Fr. Chito Beltran, tagapangasiwa ng ecological and social concern ng Diocese of Cabanatuan, sa gitna ng pagdagsa ng mga residente ng lalawigan sa Sitio Bacao, Barangay Doña Josefa sa lungsod na ito, halos linggo-linggo, upang magtanim ng katutubong punongkahoy.

May 1,100 ektaryang lupain sa bulubunduking bahagi ng nabanggit na sitio ang nakalaan para sa reforestation project na pinangangasiwaan ni Beltran, katuwang ang may 95 pamilyang Aeta na inilipat sa lugar mula sa Barangay Sapang Bato, Angeles City nang pumutok ang Mount Pinatubo noong 1991.

“Maraming nakikiisa sa ating trabaho dahil yun pong mga LGU (local government units) ng Sta. Rosa, Palayan City at saka po ‘yung mga Catholic schools ay tumutulong. Mga parishes ay pumupunta po dito para magtanim ng puno,” ani Beltran.

Karaniwang 150 hanggang 500 katao ang grupo-grupong nagtatanim sa reforestation project kapag weekend, aniya.

“Pati po mga public schools ay tumutulong,” dagdag niya.

Kaugnay nito, pinangunahan ni Sta. Rosa Mayor Josefino Angeles ang mga kawani ng munisipyo sa pagtatanim ng puno at pagdadala ng tig-2 kilong bigas at mga sardinas bawat isa sa Sitio Bacao.

“Tungkulin namin ito, hindi lamang bilang empleyado ng munisipyo kundi bilang mamamayang dapat mangalaga sa kalikasan, Siguro kahit hindi nasa gobyerno o pribado, tungkulin natin pare-pareho na pangalagaan ang kalikasan,” pahayag ni Ruben Esquejo, Jr., municipal administrator ng Sta. Rosa.

Ang mga bigas at pagkaing dala nila ay ibabahagi sa mga pamilyang Aeta alinsunod sa pinaiiral na patakarang food for work, ayon kay Beltran.

Sa naturang sistema, bawat isang araw ng pagtatanim ng puno, ang bawat Aeta ay pagkakalooban ng apat na kilong bigas, dalawang lata ng sardinas at apat na pakete ng instant noodles.

Paliwanang ni Beltran, bukod sa malaking tulong ng mga katutubo sa pagbuhay ng kagubatan ay nagbibigay sa kanila ng dignidad ang paggawa para sa kabuhayan.

Nagsimula ang reforestation program sa Sitio Bacao noong 2010.

Bago tuluyang magtanim, ang mga kalahok ay binibigyan muna ng mahahalagang impormasyon sa tunay na kahalagahan ng kagubatan.

“Ang katotohanan niyan, nalalaman naman ng mga tao ang kahalagahan ng ating planeta na kinakailangang pangalagaan.

Ang sinisikap nating gawin eh pag-alis dito ay may nadagdag o kaya mas lumalim ‘yung pagtatalaga natin para sa pagtataguyod ng kapakanan ng kalikasan at siyempre pa sa kapakanan na rin ng tao,” saad ni Beltran.
