P2.9-M dike protects 3 villages in Sta. Rita

STA. RITA, Pampanga – At least three villages, including the host to this town’s commercial district, are now flood-free following the completion of a P2.9 million dike in Barangay San Matias.

This was according to Mayor Yolanda “Yolly” Pineda, who recently toured Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda at the dike.
Mayor Pineda identified the barangays as San Vicente, Santa Monica and San Agustin. San Vicente is the business district of this town.

She thanked Gov. Pineda for the funds they used for the construction of the project. The governor gives P5 million annual subsidy to Pampanga’s 19 towns and two cities.

Mayor Pineda said the dike will also protect the rice and vegetable production in the town.
The dike is called “Depensang Balen”, which is Kapampangan term for “town’s defense.”

In an interview with local farmers, they said “these are the projects that must be done because they benefit lives, properties and businesses.”
“We thank Mayor Yolly for knowing her priorities. We thank more Gov. Pineda for the funds she gave to Sta. Rita,” they said.
