MANILA (Updated 9:41 a.m.) — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday suspended classes in the entire National Capital Region (NCR) due to heavy rains.
DepEd-NCR officer-in-charge Rizalino Rosales said classes from pre-school, elementary, and high school for public and private schools were suspended due to heavy rains brought by Typhoon Kabayan and the new low pressure area (LPA).
Rosales said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said heavy rains are expected Tuesday.
He said that according to Pagasa, rains may be heaviest between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m
Meanwhile, the Commission on Higher Education is leaving it up to the colleges and universities to suspend classes.
Ched only suspends classes on college level if signal number 3 is up.
However, some universities have already suspended classes due to heavy rains.
These include the University of Santo Tomas, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (Metro Manila campuses), St. Paul (Quezon City and Manila), San Sebastian, Phil. Aeronautics Pasay, Philippine Normal University, Technological University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines (Manila), Rizal Technological University (Mandaluyong) and San Mateo Municipal College (San Mateo Rizal).
Meanwhile, the Pagasa said Typhoon Kabayan has slightly weakened as it remains in the Philippine Sea.
It said Kabayan is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday night or Thursday. (Sunnex)
