NBI probe sought in village chair slay
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Despite the arrest of the suspect who police believe is behind the ambush-slay of a Bacolor village chief and two others, Mayor Jomar Hizon yesterday sought a parallel investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regional office.
In a meeting with NBI-3 Director Atty. Jose Yap, Hizon asked the agency to conduct their own investigation on the August 3 killing which involved Mesalipit village chair Rodrigo Lopez Tongol and his two relatives Pedro Canlas Sambo and Merlito Pineda Naguit.
Hizon said there is a need to establish the credibility of the two witnesses who pinpointed suspect Alvin Sigua as the gunman in Tongol’s murder.
“If Sigua is the real suspect, job well done. If not nakakaawa naman ang suspek,” Hizon said, referring to the police authorities.
Yap, for his part, urged the families of Tongol and two others to cooperate with the investigation.
“Kung meron silang nalalaman, sabihin nila lahat sa atin kung meron mang mga death threats na natanggap noong buhay pa ang mga biktima,” Yap added.
Last Wednesday, police authorities of the Special Investigation Task Group Tongol (SITG Tongol) arrested Sigua, 47, a resident of Paralaya Street, Barangay Sta. Barbara, Bacolor town.
Albayalde said Sigua was arrested at about 7 a.m. yesterday during a follow up operation conducted by Mabalacat police along the vicinity of Bacolor Elementary School in Barangay Sta. Barbara, Bacolor.
Albayalde said two witnesses, who were identified only as residents of Madapdap Resettlement and another from Balaba, Biglang Sibul, Dau–both from Mabalacat City–personally identified Sigua as the gunman in the ambush of Tongol.
The two witnesses, however, added that the suspects were wearing bonnets during the ambush which transpired at Barangay Bundagul last Saturday at around 7:30 p.m.
Sigua was arrested in relation to a standing Alias Warrant of Arrest for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition shortly after the two witnesses identified him as the gunman of Tongol.
