Nanay, Delta landslide win seen

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The people of Pampanga have spoken based on the latest survey of a Manila-based survey firm and they decided to overwhelmingly re-elect Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda and make her son, former Lubao Mayor Dennis “Delta” Pineda, one of the youngest vice governors of the province.

In a survey conducted by the survey firm from April 27 to May 7, Gov. Pineda got 87 percent of the some 54,000 respondents or 5 percent of the total voting population of each barangay in the first-class province.
Former Gov. Eddie Panlilio garnered 12 percent, while Jose Montemayor got one percent.

On Monday, the country will hold a mid-term election. There are 1,081,552 registered voters in Pampanga, which has 505 villages in 19 towns and two component cities.

In the race for vice governor, former mayor, Dennis Pineda got 85 percent, while Ma. Amalia Tiglao-Cayanan garnered 15 percent in the same survey conducted for 11 days.

Pineda just turned 39-years old last May 6 and was a three-term mayor of their hometown of Lubao.
Three-term Vice Gov. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao, who is a leading candidate for First District congressman, was 45 years-old-when first elected vice governor in 2004.

The method used was random sampling and face-to-face interview of household-based respondents. The margin of error was less than one percent.

In the 2010 elections, Pineda won via landslide versus then governor Panlilio. She led by some 230,000 votes over the priest-turned-politician.

Asked for his comments, Apalit Mayor Oscar “Jun” Tetangco said “the survey did not surprise me because that’s also the case in our town.”

“Our aim is to give at least 90 percent of the total votes cast and this is very much possible. My assessment is based on my own survey and Gov. Pineda really worked very hard in three years,” said Tetangco.

Tetangco, who is unopposed for re-election, said Delta (Pineda) will also win via landslide.
He said that Pineda received recognitions and awards as former mayor of Lubao.

In 2004, then Mayor Pineda was cited by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for making Lubao one of the peaceful towns in the Philippines.

“Lubao was one of the three top awardees in the peace and order category in that year,” said Tetangco.
For her part. Second District Board Member Olga Frances “Fritzie” David-Dizon said “the projected huge lead of Pineda is largely due to her performance as governor.”

“Public officials know that if they work, seeking re-election is a breeze or like a walk in the park. Pineda is one of the most hardworking officials I have met in my entire life,” said David-Dizon, who is seen frequently with Pineda since last year.

“You will really see and feel that Nanay is very much loved by the people, especially the poor ones. She has touched the life of the Kapampangans and the gesture will remain in their hearts and minds forever,” she added.

Former San Simon Mayor Rodrigo Canlas said that the Pineda administration had over P1.2 billion worth of projects in more than two years.

“What’s more amazing is that the province has some P2 billion in savings and is debt-free,” said Canlas. He based his comments on the latest financial and accomplishment report of the provincial government given to local and barangay officials.
