‘Juaning’ floods 6 Pampanga towns
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — As Tropical Storm Juaning exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility, at least 29 villages from six municipalities in the province were left inundated in floodwaters as high as six feet.
Based on the latest report of the Pampanga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), “Juaning” (international codename: Nock-Ten) has flooded 29 villages from towns of Guagua, Mexico, Macabebe, Lubao, Sta. Ana and Masantol.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) earlier placed the province under signal number 1.
Floodwater level in Guagua town was recorded as high as four feet, prompting Mayor Ricardo Rivera to cancel classes in all levels.
In other towns, floodwater levels range from one foot to three feet.
In Sta. Ana town, at least three houses in Barangay San Agustin were washed out due to heavy current from the Matubig creek, reports said.
The Sta. Ana-Magalang provincial road’s concrete pavement in Barangay San Roque has collapsed by about 20 meters. The Inumang Baka creek in Barangay Santiago was also breached due to overflowing.
Governor Lilia Pineda convened an emergency meeting on Thursday with the PDRRMC and Pampanga mayors to ensure immediate assistance to flooded barangays and towns.
“We have also instructed our people to readily inform people living along waterways to be always ready for evacuation in case floodwaters would get higher,” Pineda said. (Charlene Cayabyab/Ian Ocampo Flora)
