Group condemns assault on dentists

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Members of the Pampanga Dental Association (PDA) condemned Wednesday the robbery and sexual molestation attempt on a dentist and her assistant in Barangay Sto. Domingo Mexico town last month.
Dr. Enrico Sunglao, PDA president, said dentists — not only in the province — are now subjects of new modus operandi for sexual molestation and robbery.
“Talagang kinokodena natin yung nangyaring ito sa ating hanay. Kaya minabuti nating isagawa ang aktibidad na ito para maging handa ang ating mga miyembro sa hindi inaasahang pangyayari,” he said, referring to the multi-sectoral dialogue attended by the leadership of the Philippine National Police, with Governor Lilia Pineda and other provincial elected officials.
During the dialogue, police told dentists to remain vigilant in order to protect themselves from any untoward incident. Dentists are also advised to avoid using heavily tinted glasses in their clinic.
Police likewise suggested that entertaining walk-in patients must be avoided, and if possible, install CCTV cameras and employ the services of security guards.
Superintendent Wilson Santos VI, Mexico police chief, meanwhile, disclosed that the modus begins when the patient, under a false name, walks in for an appointment. From there, the suspect would whip out a weapon from his bag and announce a robbery.
The police presented a facial composite of the suspect based on the description given by the victims.
The same is said to be posted in public places and various dental clinics in the province.
