CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A grateful Fernando David wrote the SM City Pampanga management and the Prestige Security Services Incorporation on Tuesday to formally commend a security guard who returned P31,000 and $660 he accidentally left in a pushcart here on July 16.
Security guard Ferdinand J. Mejia of Prestige Security Agency found a black clutch bag containing important documents and cash inside a supermarket pushcart at the mall over weekend.
Mejia reported and turned over the said clutch bag to officials of SM City Pampanga’s Customer Relations Security (CRS) Office for proper disposition.
The CRS office, after thorough scrutiny of the items, discovered that the bag belongs to David, who is detailed to the office of National Bureau of Investigation assistant regional director Rolando Agrabioso.
David is also the current president of the San Fernando Lions Club.
In his letter, David said he is thankful for the honesty demonstrated by Mejia. He said he publicly commends Mejia and has openly talked about it among his friends and colleagues as a source of inspiration.
“I know that such amount could go a long way to augment his family’s personal needs. But still, he never had second thoughts about returning my clutch bag. Nowadays, people would get easily tempted, that is why, he should be held up as an example for others to try to emulate,” David said.
The recovered bag, with all items intact, was earlier returned to David at the SM City Pampanga Customer Relations Security Office. The turnover was witnessed by assistant mall manager John Lo, who represented the operations department.
David offered to reward Mejia P3,000 in cash but the latter refused.
He said he is urging SM City Pampanga to honor Mejia’s deed and make it a source of inspiration among its other security personnel and mall goers as well.
