Frederic Drouhin (Maison Joseph Drouhin, Burgundy) : “the 2009 vintage could overshadow 2008” (Dec 18, 2009)
Clark Wine Center is pleased to relay interesting news and articles about wine to you on this web site. We hope that this will enhance your wine shopping experience when you visit this wine shop in Pampanga Clark Freeport Zone.
As the bureau of wine professionals from Burgundy is assessing the economic situation of the region on its various markets, Frédéric Drouhin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Maison Joseph Drouhin (Beaune) sheds some light on the US market: “Today, wine importers’ and distributors’ stocks are low, but wine producers’ stocks in the USA remain high. Wholesalers are looking for “hits”: since the spring, Burgundy wine professionals have adjusted their sales offering, sometimes with conditions rarely seen before (…). Pressure on wine margins remains strong. The reputation of the 2008 vintage is good. The first tastings by the professionals are rather encouraging, but there is already talk of the 2009 vintage, and there is the risk that it will overshadow 2008. The market is expecting a drop in prices which cannot be applied to wine consumers if the dollar continues to fall. So the wine market remains difficult, but it does have the capacity to rebound and start up again very quickly, at least for those operators with a sales network and the capacity to finance promotions and marketing campaigns.”
