Mayor hit for questioning their credibility

MABALACAT, Pampanga – The two witnesses on the August 3, 2013 ambush-slay of a barangay captain and his two aides in Barangay Bundagul here now fear for their lives as they claimed that several unidentified persons are now monitoring their activities.

In an exclusive interview with this reporter, the two witnesses appealed for police protection even as they expressed disappointment on the action of Bacolor Mayor Jose Maria “Jomar” Hizon who questioned their credibility as vital witnesses in the triple murder charges against suspected hitman, Alvin Sigua.
The two witnesses, who requested not to be identified for fear of reprisal, have been hiding since coming out to disclose the identity of the lone gunman who ambushed and killed Rodrigo Tongol, barangay captain of Mesalipit, Bacolor and two others identified as Merlito Pineda and Pedro Canlas.

“Nagtatago na po kami dahil sa takot at banta sa aming buhay. Pati pamilya namin nadamay na sa problema (We are now in hiding in fear. Even our families have been affected by this problem),” they said.

But, according to them, they stood pat on their testimonies given to the police pointing Sigua as the killer.
“Kahit po nasa panganib na ang aming buhay, ipagpatuloy po namin ang pagtestigo para sa ikalulutas ng kaso (We will still testify in this case even if our lives are in danger),” they said.

They claimed that, instead of helping them, Mayor Hizon has casted doubts on their testimonies.
After the police arrested Sigua last week in Barangay Sta. Barbara, Bacolor, Hizon, accompanied by several of his barangay captains, went to the office of the National Bureau of Investigation in the City of San Fernando and asked for a separate investigation as he challenged the credibility of the two witnesses.

Pampanga Police Provincial Office director, Senior Supt. Oscar Albayalde, said the two witnesses are vital in their investigation as “they appeared credible.”

“Based on their personal accounts after the ambush, it was clear that Sigua was really the gunman,” Albayalde said.
The witnesses were on their way to Madapdap resettlement center when they allegedly saw Sigua riding at the back of a motorcycle, leaving the scene of the crime.

“Si Alvin Sigua ay naka-angkas sa likod ng motorsiklo na minamaneho ng kasama niyang nakasuot ng bonnet sa ulo (Alvin Sigua was back-riding a motorcycle driven by another wearing a bonnet),” the witnesses told this reporter.

Police has issued a P600,000 reward for the identification and capture of the suspects, two days after the ambush.
Mayor Hizon volunteered to give half a million pesos while Pampanga Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda offered P100,000 as cash reward for the arrest of the suspect in the killings.

The witnesses claimed that they were not aware of the reward to be given to tipsters. They have issued their testimonies before the reward was announced by the police.

“Kusa kaming dumulog sa pulisya at nagbigay ng pahayag tungkol sa kaso na nasaksihan namin pero wala kaming inisip na kapalit nito,” they said.
