CLTV 36 at 4: Reinventing the boob tube

May 16, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — As pioneering regional television network, CLTV 36 of the Laus Group of Companies’ trimedia network celebrated its four years on the airwaves, expectations continue to run high and viewers all over watch and wait for the shape of things to come for the “Ka-Rehiyons.”
CLTV 36 general manager and vice-president Sonia Soto hints that the network will reinvent itself, to push for greater—and the best—in community journalism and broadcasting with its organic force of 52 and talent pool of 20.
“Ang tingin namin ay ang CLTV 36 ay papunta sa isang panahon kung saan kailangan bahagi siya ng community at ang community inaangkin din siya. Hindi puwedeng maghiwalay ang community at ang television station. Only then can we become truly Ka-Rehiyon at atin ito. It will citizen and community journalism,” Soto shared.
Soto furthered that they are looking at more participation in programs: “Since we are dominantly new news and public affairs, the programs we are going to add in the coming months, for example in July, we will the ‘Pinoy-wise’ TV program which is in partnership with an international NGO on migration so they are focusing on financial literacy for families left behind by OFWs. So we have partners in Abu Dhabi, Hongkong and everywhere else in the world.”
“We will also have a ‘good news’ TV program. It will focus on the triumphs of our ka-rehiyon. Madalas kasing sinasabi na iyung TV daw ay puro malungkot at masayang balita. So ito naman ay iyung magagandang nangyayarui o iyung replicable practices. We will also a morning show which is a combination of culture, news analysis and of course meron iyang price watch so paggising palang, they can tune in for important information,” she added.
Voices and faces of information
For correspondent Mike Cigarral who has been with CLTV 36 for 4 years, it was and continues to be an enjoyable experience being on the beat for the station. “Beatwork, where you have to be there at the scene as a face and voice of the people, is very challenging but enjoyable.”
Jeffrey Gomez agrees: “Very challenging and you get to meet a lot of people. Still, the purpose na maging boses ka ng mga tao like iyung underprivileged ay nagiging instrument ka upang maibahagi sa mga kinauukulan iyung kanilang problema at daing. We become their voices in quest for solutions.”
Senior cameraman Ford Esguerra shares the same sentiments: “Challenging ang trabaho naming lao na sa field kung saan may halo ng pagkadelikado iyung coverage. Pero masaya dahil nakakatulong kami sa mga tao.”
“Fantastic,” is how Aizeleen David, one of the local media’s best—along with anchor Jennifer Salenga— describes her work as reporter and show host.
“Pero ang pinaimportante ay iyung nagiging boses kami ng mahihirap nating kababayan na hindi magawang ihayag iyung kanilang sentiment at hinaing sa pamahalaan. In my three years with CLTV, I am happy na naging instrument ako ng pagbabago.”
Veteran journalist Tonette Orejas, for her part, pictures her stint with CLTV 36 as a reinvention of herself.
“I used to be anonymous. They know me as a name when I’m with the Inquirer. Nagkaroon ako ng mukha, ng face. Naglalakad ka sa palengke and people will tell you ‘Mam, napanood naming sa Tonette Orejas Reports iyung sa patay and we like it.’ May mga bagay kasi na hindi tina-tackle ng ibang programs na inuungkat nga ming reports,” she said, adding to reduce the risks in hot political issues like in Hamon Central Luzon, is plainly by being objective.
Balitaan anchor and top rated reporter Jen Salenga punctuates the reinvention of CLTV 36 aptly: “Asahan po ng mga taga-Region III na patuloy naming gagampanan ang aming tungkulin at magbibigay ng mga impormasyon na napapanahon para maging informed citizens ang mamamayan ng Central Luzon.”
