Cities forge pact on waterways clean-up

THE City Governments of Angeles and San Fernando on Friday signed a commitment agreement on the clean-up of waterways and tributaries according to the Supreme Court’s order on the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program.
The Angeles City delegation was led by Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and all 23 barangay chiefs, while Mayor Oscar Rodriguez with city officials led the City of San Fernando delegation.
“This move is to rid ourselves of further finger pointing. We must act and move together to save our waterways,” said Pamintuan, who led the Save Sapang Balen Creek, together with Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio David.
On the other hand, Rodriguez said the Angles City Government’s move was laudable since it will now be a joint effort in cleaning up clogged and garbage-ridden waterways.
“I remember being pointed to by the mayor of Macabebe because of the alleged garbage there, but I said it was from Angeles City. It is good Director Dijan has agreed to this joint undertaking para wala ng turuan. We have forged now a memorandum of understanding which calls for a concerted move. On our part, we would install garbage traps to identify which barangay continues to violate our laws,” said Rodriguez.
For her part, Dijan assured that the agreement would be put in its fullest effect.
“We all have our responsibilities and obligations in this campaign. Let us all work together as the Supreme Court wants it. There is not so much time left in our hands and I congratulate Angeles City and the City of San Fernando for supporting our moves together with Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways and all stakeholders,” Dijan said.
