Capitol employees plant bamboo propagules at Nabuclod

FLORIDABLANCA — The Provincial Government over the weekend planted hundreds of bamboo propagules at Nabuclod village here as part of the kick-off celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
Gov. Lilia Pineda led some 300 capitol employees in the tree planting activity that started at 4:30 a.m. at the highland hills and slopes of Nabuclod, an Aeta village and home to some 200 families. The village is the farthest community of the town nestled under the Porac-Zambales ranges.

“This is part of our effort to create a bamboo supply system here in relation to Bamboo Council and our advocacy to promote bamboo. This is also a tree planting activity of other hardwood seeds as part of our celebration of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption,” Pineda said.
To recall, the province created the Pampanga Bamboo Development Council (PBDC) to address the need to propagate, promote and develop the national bamboo program of the government. Bamboo could be a source of food, commercial products and as natural protection against global warming and soil erosion.
The primary objective of PBDC is to advocate for sustainable environment and livelihood in the province through the development and propagation of bamboo.
Pineda said bamboos planted in Nabuclod would also be a form of protection against soil erosion as most of the propagules were planted near ravines and sharp slopes.
She added that the bamboos, upon maturing, will provide livelihood to Aeta communities here who were tasked to care for the propagules.
The province, in cooperation with the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, are exploring ways and have started seminars on how to use bamboo for more productive and high profit yielding crafts.
