In the first quarter of 2010, Burgundy wines are back in touch with growth after a difficult 2009 for wine.
In French supermarket wine sales (- 0.5 % by volume but + 0.5 % by value in total in the 12 months up to the end of February 2010), the excellent performance of Burgundy white wine can be noted: +2.2 % by volume and +2.9 % by value.
The growth in the variety of wines available in supermarkets (13.4 different Burgundy white wines compared to 12.8 one year previously) and the growth in average weekly wine sales of Burgundy white wine (+2 % in one year) shows the combination of a rise in real consumer demand and the confidence of the chains.
Burgundy white wine account for 13.7% of the volume of French AOC white wine sold in supermarkets (compared to 17.4% one year previously). This rise should nonetheless be put in the context of the significant global fall in other French AOC white wines (-10 % by volume).
