Bulacan bishop defends Arroyo

A BISHOP from Malolos, Bulacan has moved to defend former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo after renewed allegations involving her in rigging the 2004 presidential elections.
Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros said if the Aquino administration seeks to discover the truth, it should be decided by the courts, and not by publicity.
“Lumalabas kasi ngayon na guilty na kagad ang dating pangulo sa mga isyu ng katiwalian na ipinalalabas ng Malacanyang gayung hindi pa naman ito dumaan sa tamang proseso at itinatakda ng saligang batas (Due process still has to be done but the former president now appears to be guilty of these issues),” the prelate said in an interview over Radyo Veritas 846.
He said he is convinced that Arroyo is willing to face all charges against her at the right venue.
He also said that the current administration should also allow Arroyo to defend herself.
“So, we do it in a democratic way. Give them a chance to defend themselves in a proper court. They are supposed to be presumed innocent before proven guilty. Ngayon ang nangyayari (But what happens now) they are always presumed to be guilty before proven innocent. Hindi naman dapat ganun. Baliktad, e (It shouldn’t be that way).” he added. (FP/Sunnex)
