Broadcasters, groups plant 1,500 trees

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) Pampanga Chapter, dwRW 95.1 FM and CLTV 36 were at the frontline Saturday with various groups in planting some 1,500 saplings of Pringon and Banaba at the San Fernando stretch of the Megadike here.
Dubbed “Broadcastreeing,” the broadcasters and media people were joined during the 6 a.m. tree planting activity by representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Philippine Air Force, Apalit Doctors Association, SM City Pampanga, SM City Clark, Bureau of Fire Protection, City Environment and Natural Resources Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Education, Department of Public Works and Highways, Pampanga Bikers and other volunteer groups.

“Broadcastreeing” is KBP’s part in the National Greening Program, where environment-conscious Filipinos are asked to plant at least 10 seedlings in the next six years to achieve the government’s goal of millions of trees in the near future, helping reduce global warming and address climate change.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Leo Ignacio told Sun.Star Pampanga that the KBP advocacy is laudable. “It was coordinated with us and various agencies to help green this part of the Megadike. The 1,500 trees planted today will be of great help in preserving the environment for future generations.”
He said the trees will be watered regularly and maintained by personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Guagua.
