Bong Revilla: No rift with Lacson amid sons’ upcoming vice-gubernatorial fight in Cavite

Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. over the weekend downplayed a possible rift with fellow Cavite native Sen. Panfilo Lacson over reports their sons are to slug it out in the vice gubernatorial race in Cavite in 2013.

Revilla, in a radio interview, said Sunday that if the electoral showdown pushes through, it will be a “friendly and fair” fight.

“Hindi siguro dapat maapektuhan ‘yan,” he said in an interview on dzBB radio, when asked if the upcoming matchup will affect his working relations with Lacson.

According to Revilla, his son Jolo will run for vice governor in the 2013 elections under the Magdalo-Lakas alliance, alongside reelectionist Gov. Jonvic Remulla.

Earlier reports indicated Lacson’s son Ronald Jay is also running for the vice gubernatorial post.

“I think it’s going to be a friendly competition if ever at umasa sila na patas ang laban. Walang personalan ang labanan,” the elder Revilla said.

“Ang importante rito, may pagpipilian ang mamamayan ng Cavite kaya napakapalad ng mamamayan ng Cavite,” he added.

The elder Revilla is with the Lakas party allied with former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo. Lacson does not belong to any political party.

Revilla said the Magdalo-Lakas alliance will swear in new members on his birthday on September 25.

He also said he does not expect reports of Jolo’s reported relationship with actress Jodi Sta. Maria to be a factor in the vice gubernatorial race.

Sta. Maria is the former wife of Ronald Jay’s brother Panfilo Jr.

“Sa aspeto na ‘yan ayoko makialam sa personal na buhay. Hindi tayo nagkulang sa pangaral kay Jolo,” the elder Revilla said.

He also said that while his son is now 24, he has had some experience in public service, serving as barangay captain and president of the association of barangay captains in Bacoor. – KG, GMA News
