Bataan vendors get Labor office’s assistance

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Luzon (Dole-CL) has granted another assistance to vendors in Bataan.
In a report by Regional Director Leopoldo De Jesus to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz, the Dole Bataan Field Office headed by Nely Punzalan, partnered with the municipalities of Mariveles and Morong, in the release of livelihood assistance under the Dole’s Negosyo sa Kariton Project.
In Mariveles, the Dole partnered with the local government unit (LGU) through Mayor Jesse Concepcion in the release of livelihood check worth P100,000 to 10 ambulant vendors from Mariveles.
Mayor Concepion thanked the Dole-CL for their unending assistance to his constituents.
Dole-CL has earlier provided assistance to a group of senior citizens for their livelihood project in August 2011.
Mayor Concepcion reminded all beneficiaries to enrich the assistance they received from Dole.
Beneficiaries saw the livelihood assistance as an early Christmas gift.
Coinciding with the activity was the awarding of checks representing the 40-percent share of the Dole’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) to 34 student beneficiaries.
The SPES throughout the years has always served an opportunity to enhance employment chances of the youth.
In Morong, the Dole also partnered with the LGU in the release of livelihood check worth P100,000 to 10 ambulant vendors there.
Reynaldo Eufemio, a former security guard and now a fishball vendor thanked the DoLE and the LGU for the assistance.
As a self-employed worker earning P300 a day, Eufemio is now capable of sending his three children to school and buy home appliances out of vending. He expects to increase his income to at least P500 a day after receiving assistance.
Dole-Bataan chief Punzalan said the livelihood provided covers the acquisition of a vending cart and accessory livelihood tools; provision of working capital for procurement or production of marketable goods or services; provision of trainings on production skills, entrepreneurship and business management; and, assistance in securing business permits to operate in designated areas.
The “Dole Negokart Project” or Negosyo sa Kariton aims to assist ambulant vendor beneficiaries in making their existing livelihood undertakings grow into profitable and sustainable business and make their income at par with that of minimum wage earners.
Beneficiaries will be granted a new vending cart with accessory livelihood tools, including raw materials.
In addition, training on production skills, entrepreneurship and business management will also be provided likewise enrollment to SSS or PhilHealth as part of their social protection.
