Aquino vows to support distressed Kapampangans

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda said on Wednesday that President Benigno Aquino III has pledged to support Kapampangans adversely affected by flooding, especially those from the fourth district towns of Candaba, Apalit, Masantol, San Simon, Masantol and Macabebe.
Aquino visited the city to inspect San Fernando’s Sagip Ilog project under the watch of Mayor Oscar Rodriguez. It was the first meeting of the President and the governor.
“Nag-usap kami ng Presidente at tinanong ko siya: Mr. President, baka puwede inyo kaming tulungan sa pagtayo ng isang relocation area para sa mga nawalan ng bahay lalo na iyung malapit sa Pampanga River. Pumayag naman siya at nangakong tutulungan tayong mailapit kaagad ito sa tamang ahensiya tulad ng NHA (National Housing Authority), (We talked and I asked the President if he can help the province build a relocation area for those who’ve lost their homes, especially those living along the Pampanga River. He promised to help refer this to the NHA),” the governor said.
Pineda has been batting for voluntary evacuation of affected families for their own safety.
She broached the idea of the relocation site in a government-owned property recently, as she said Capitol could not do it alone and will need the help of the National Government.
“Nangako din ang Presidente na tutulungan tayo sa food supplies at iba pang pangangailangan ng mga nasalanta nating kababayan. Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa kanya sa kanyang tulong, (The President also helped in providing food supplies and other needs of the flooding victims. I’m really thankful of the President)” Pineda said.
