AirAsia ties up with engineering firm for aircraft maintenance

CLARK FREEPORT — The AirAisa Inc. Philippines today signed a two-year contract with SIA Engineering Philippines (SIAEP), a leading provider of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in Asia Pacific, to carry out aircraft maintenance for its fleet in Clark.
Maan Hontiveros, AA Inc. Philippines CEO, said the partnership affirms that Filipinos are truly world-class.
“Today is a milestone not only for AirAsia Inc. Philippines but for the country as well, as we are tapping the skills of fellow Filipino flight mechanics, engineers, technicians and aviation experts of SIAEP,” said Hontiveros.
He added that with SIAEP’s high quality and comprehensive engineering services, there will be safer and faster turnarounds of aircraft for the benefit of the passengers while offering lower airfares.

AirAsia Philippines has an all-Filipino management, staff and crew from pilots, flight attendants, engineers, ground services to marketing, finance and administration officers.

SIAEP General Manager Seah Soon Huat said.
Under the agreement, SIAEP will provide AAP with a broad spectrum of MRO and aircraft maintenance ranging from routine to non-routine services, including but not limited to transit handling, daily and weekly checks, e-checks and other associated maintenance services.
“This partnership underlines the confidence we have on the future of Clark as an international airport and also to support the government’s effort to pump up the economy by creating jobs and business opportunities,” Hontiveros said.
AirAsia services the most extensive network with over 160 routes covering destinations in Asia, Australia and Europe. Within nine years of operations, AirAsia has carried over 120 million guests and grown its fleet from just two aircraft to 104.
AirAsia is the regional carrier with the largest destination network and highest flight frequencies. AirAsia was named the 2011 World’s Best Low Cost Airline in the annual World Airline Survey by Skytrax for three consecutive years.
Hontiveros also noted that with Clark as its hub, AirAsia Inc. (Philippines) will help revitalize the tourism in the central and northern part of the country with expected airline passenger traffic to grow in the next five years.
