7 of 10 Pampanga barangay officials Philhealth covered

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – At least 71 percent of the barangay officials in the province are Philhealth enrolled.
This was revealed by Arsenia Torres, branch manager of Philhealth Regional Office III, in her report to Gov. Lilia Pineda recently.

Torres disclosed that out of 505 barangays in Pampanga, 357 were recorded to have officials who are already enrolled to Philhealth – from the barangay captain, seven kagawads, Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson, barangay secretary and treasurer.

Philhealth record shows that, in the First District, 72 percent of the local officials are Philhealth members; Second District, 53 percent; Third District, 79 percent; and, 81 percent in the Fourth District.

Notable in the data are the towns of Apalit, Masantol and Sta. Ana whose Philhealth membership for barangay officials are both 100 percent.

The branch manager said this status report on barangay officials’ enrollment to Philhealth is better compared to that of other provinces in the region.

“This is already an indication of awareness of the barangay officials on the advantages of the health insurance,” Torres said.

Pineda urged the village officials to make sure that they are enrolled to Philhealth because they are prone to sickness especially during disasters.

“It is expected among leaders to be model not only of good virtues but also of good health. They should be in the pink of health to carry out their responsibility to the people in the barangay,” Pineda said.
