2 soldiers injured in Palawan ambush

TWO Marine soldiers, including an officer, were wounded in an ambush staged by a group of armed men in Taytay town in Palawan on Monday morning.

Palawan police chief Senior Superintendent Atanacio Macalan named the wounded troops as 1st Lieutenant Rodelito Ramos and Private First Class Marvin Montebon, both detailed with the Marine Battalion Landing Team 4.

Macalan said the MBLT 4 personnel were aboard a military and on the way to Puerto Princesa City when they were waylaid around 9:30 a.m. at the vicinity of Sitio Ebangley in Abongan village in Taytay town.

He said a bomb was detonated by the suspects before opening fire on the troops who fought back.

Macalan said the wounded soldiers were taken to the Roxas Medical Center.

There were no reports of enemy casualties.

It was not clear if the suspects are affiliated to a group. A number of communist New People’s Army rebels are known to operate in the province. (VR/Sunnex)
