1 killed in Angeles City heist

ANGELES CITY — A security guard died in a robbery that transpired inside a hotel along Fields Avenue, the entertainment boulevard of this city, at dawn Monday.

Reyjan Manate Palmon, 25, a security guard of Welcome Inn, of Purok 5 Jasmin Street, Barangay Margot, this city, was killed after a suspected robber, identified as Paolo Castro Bautista Jr., 29, of Biliran, Leyte, shot him twice on the head.

Chief Inspector Luisito Tan, Police Station 4 chief, said that Bautista went inside the Welcome Inn around 2:30 a.m. Monday and pretended to a guest.

The suspect reportedly pulled out a .38 caliber gun and announced the heist while being entertained by one Emy Garcia, an attendant of said establishment.

Palmon attempted to go up the second level of the hotel but Bautista warned him saying “pare walang problema dito.”

But the security guard continued climbing, forcing the suspect to shoot the latter.
Tan said Palmon sustained two gunshot wounds on the head, causing his instantaneous death.
After taking P3,000 from Garcia, Bautista fled.

But responding policemen from Police Station 4, who were accompanied by members of the Auxiliary Tourist Police, apprehended the suspect after a brief chase.

Bautista is now detained at said police station and is facing charges of robbery and homicide.
Tan said the suspect is also responsible for the recent robbery incident at the Emerald Hotel and King Poker Shop along Friendship Avenue in Barangay Malabanias here.
