Task force inspects utility lines

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Task Force Spaghetti Cables, a team comprised of all utility companies operating in this city, conducted an ocular inspection of utility cables and posts that have become obstructions here in line with the widening of the McArthur highway.

The task force is composed of the Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications, Digitel, Smart, Globe, ComClark, SCN and the an Fernando Electric Light and Power Company Inc. as well as officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways, National Telecommunications Company, City Government of San Fernando and Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PanCham).

The task force was established to create a united effort in removing spaghetti cables along McArthur Highway here as well as relocate electric posts that are within the widening scope of the highway. Most telephone cables and other related utilities use electric post in servicing households in the city.

The ocular inspection zoned in on the Barangay San Agustin section of the McArthur Highway. The task force identified for clearing 13 utility posts and a cable box located along Mac Arthur highway from PamCham’s office up to San Agustin Mall.

The task force members resolved that the target completion date for the clearing of the 13 posts will be August 31 and the transfer of the cable box up to September 30.

The task force was organized specifically to address and resolve the concern of the business sector on the proliferation of messy spaghetti cables and obstructive multiple utility posts along the major highways in Pampanga.

The members conduct regular meetings to strategize and schedule clearing operations for obstructive posts and cable boxes, as well as set technical standards for the installation of utility wires, cables and posts in the City of San Fernando.

PamCham hopes that the initiative will be replicated in the other cities and municipalities of the province and bring order into the irresponsible setting up of utility cables along power lines.
