Sizzling Sisig’ cook fest slated
ANGELES CITY–In support to the One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) project of the national government, the city government will launch a contest that will showcase the many ways on how one can cook, serve and enjoy “Sizzling Sisig.”
The contest, dubbed as “101 Ways to Cook Sizzling Sisig”, will be held on August 12, 9 a.m. at the Marquee Mall Open Grounds.
Sisig is a native Filipino dish made from parts of a pig’s head and liver, and usually seasoned with chilli pepper and calamansi. It is best served hot that’s why, sometimes, it is also called “sizzling sisig.”
It is also one of the local favorite “pulutan” (beer snacks).
According to Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, sizzling sisig will help Angeles define itself as one of the culinary centers, not only of the region, but of the whole country.
“Our city has been recognized for its distinct style of sisig, which is served on a sizzling platter. Through the OTOP project of the national government and the Department of Tourism, we will finally and officially recognize sizzling sisig as our staple product and dish,” Pamintuan said.
He added that making sizzling sisig the official staple for Angeles has been a long time coming.
The contest will be participated by 25 cluster groups, ranging from day-care workers to barangay nutrition scholars, and will come from the 33 barangays of the city.
Participants will cook several variants of sisig from four different categories. These are pork, vegetables, poultry (i.e. chicken, beef, carabao) and fish.
Judges will pick one that stands out the best in each category, and three overall winners.
The OTOP project aims to promote entrepreneurship and create employment. Through OTOP, local chief executives will take lead in identifying, developing and promoting a specific product or service which has a competitive advantage.
OTOP Philippines supports micro, small and medium sized enterprises in the manufacturing and marketing of distinctive products or services through the use of indigenous raw materials and local skills and talents.
