Singaporean nabbed for importing shabu

ANGELES CITY — A Singaporean national importing shabu was nabbed by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City on Wednesday.
The suspect, identified as Soh Kiam Hwee, 36, was arrested by elements of the elite Special Enforcement Service (SES)-PDEA upon receipt of an intelligence report that the suspect will come from Bangkok, Thailand, on board Thailand Airways International Flight No. TG0620.
Upon the suspect’s arrival, the team — in coordination with airport authorities — immediately arrested him.
Confiscated from the suspect were four transparent plastic bags containing white crystalline substance suspected as shabu in a laptop bag, weighing 4 kilos and 6.59 grams.
A case for violation of Section 4 (Importation of Dangerous Drugs) under Article II of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) was filed against the suspect.
“This is another fruitful product of close and active inter-agency coordination and cooperation. What we want to be alert for is the same operations in local airports like the DMIA,” PDEA Director General Dionisio Santiago said.
Santiago said the operation was bolstered with the help of the intelligence shared by counterparts from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau abroad.
“This further affirms that international cooperation between and among the different countries’ law enforcement agencies is an indispensable ingredient in our fight against international drug syndicates,” the PDEA chief concluded. (Ria de Fiesta)
