SBMA-Zambales to collaborate for added tourism spots

SUBIC FREEPORT — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and the Provincial Government of Zambales announced plans to develop tourism areas in the province to further boost local economy.
The plan stemmed after newly appointed SBMA chairman Roberto Garcia paid a courtesy call to Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. over the weekend.

Garcia pointed out several tourism areas that he thinks SBMA can help develop — the Silangin and Anawangin coves in San Antonio, Zambales.
“These are areas we can help develop to promote tourism in Zambales and we can plan together for this initiative,” Garcia said.
Ebdane welcomed the idea and said Zambales would welcome such assistance from the SBMA. The idea, he said, is part of his vision to make the province one of the tourism capitals in the region.
“But we have to plan and do it right,” Ebdane stressed.
“There is always the social factor to consider,” Ebdane added. “And if there’s going to be some negative effects on, say, the livelihood of some sectors, then we have to rethink our projects.”
Three municipalities in Zambales — Subic town, San Antonio and Catillejos — are also included.
Bataan, for its part, has Morong, Hermosa and Dinalupihan, which are included in the list of municipalities that get developmental funds from the SBMA.
SBMA gives out two percent of the five-percent corporate tax collected from investors at the Freeport.
