Residents in flood-critical areas urged to evacuate

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Gov. Lilia Pineda on Tuesday urged her constituents, including residents threatened by floods, to voluntarily evacuate as monsoon rains spawned by a typhoon continued to batter Pampanga for four straight days.

Pineda also urged officials of the province’s 505 barangays to help their people “vacate their houses, especially those living near threatened dikes and rivers.”

“I also appeal to fathers of each family to save their families. We are ready but we can’t help you all in one time,” said Pineda in the dialect.
In Masantol, the police said a one-year-old boy identified as Justin Viray Yumul of Sitio Sta. Lucia in Barangay Paguiaba died after he drowned on Tuesday.

At least 220 families in Mabalacat City were affected by flash floods on Tuesday morning. Some of them were evacuated to safer areas.
This, according to First District Board Member Cris Garbo of Mabalacat City who joined Gov. Pineda in monitoring the effects of floods in Pampanga.

Garbo said the affected families were from Barangays Mangalit, Sto. Rosario and Camachiles. Their houses are near the Sapang Balen creek which overflowed.

Garbo said 40 and 30 families in Mangalit and Sto. Rosario, respectively, had been evacuated to public schools and chapel.
He added that the 150 families in Canidha, Camachiles “are still in their houses and are being monitored.”

“We will evacuate them once it’s needed already,” said Garbo.
Garbo said the city government headed by Mayor Marino Morales had assisted the affected families.
