Recto-Velez flyover set to open today

EXCEPT for few finishing touches, the inauguration of the Recto-Velez Flyover will finally push through today, Monday, and will be opened for both private and public vehicles.
This was announced again by Mayor Vicente Emano on Sunday during his radio program and assured that it will be pushed through after it was postponed last Saturday.
Emano will open the P107-million Recto-Velez Flyover along with the members of the City Council led by Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas, after the blessing of Msgr. Elmer S. Abacahin.
The mayor said that works at the flyover were reportedly delayed by the intermittent rains on Thursday evening. He added that the project is to be finished within 120 days based on the contract and not 90 days.
Emano’s explanation came following some criticisms after it failed to meet the 90-day deadline that he promised.
“But I am hoping that this will be finished within 90 days; in fact, I requested it to the contractor but he just said that they will see what they can do,” he added.
It was noted, however, that in his previous statement, Emano did not mention the 120 days while insisting that the Recto-Velez Flyover would surely finish within 90 days.
Likewise, Emano expects traffic in the area of Licoan-Velez-Rector junctions to ease up with the opening of the flyover.”Definitely, it would decongest traffic,” Emano said.
However, many of the motorists were doubtful if the flyover would really lessen traffic congestion, citing the traffic light along Recto-Corrales Streets. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
