Porac ‘very capable’ of operating satellite campus

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Top officials of Porac town believe the municipality is “very capable” establishing and operating a satellite campus of the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU).
In an afternoon meeting with Governor Lilia Pineda at the Capitol, Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David, together with members of the Municipal Council and Board Member Olga Frances David-Dizon, presented the plans and details of the DHVTSU satellite campus that will rise in Barangay Tokwing.
“The satellite campus of DHVTSU will be established in a 1.3-hectare area in Tokwing. We are looking at having it operational hopefully by June this year with a target of 2,000 students initially. Our governor has expressed her support and told us to draw up the final plans and details, including funding for its operations which we estimate at P3 million annually. The local government of Porac can very well comply with the requirements of DHVTSU,” Dela Cruz said.
David agreed and told Sun.Star Pampanga that Porac has the capability to build and operate the satellite campus, reportedly one of about three DHVTSU extensions to be established in the province, including Sto. Tomas and Floridablanca.
“We have funds for its operation which we can draw from our local quarry income of about P70 million. Aside from having the existing buildings in the prospective campus rehabilitated and renovated, we can build additional buildings as the DHVTSU board requires. We can also comply with the needed facilities and equipment for training and learning of students. Porac is very capable of doing that,” the vice mayor said.
He said there is now an ongoing survey to properly identify courses the satellite campus will offer, so the needs of prospective students could be matched with the right instruction.
“With the satellite campus, we hope to serve nearby communities also. All that has to be done now is draw up the final scheme and present it again to Governor Pineda who has been very supportive of our desire and plans,” concluded David. (JTD)
