Police still optimistic on Boniao’s case

THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) is still hoping to get the cooperation of businessman Manny Boniao in its investigation on the trader’s kidnapping case.
Cocpo chief Senior Superintendent Gerardo Rosales said Boniao could no longer be contacted, giving them a hard time to track down four other kidnapping suspects.
“Although tuloy ang kaso dahil may apat na tayong kinasuhan, Mr. Boniao’s statement can still be a big factor to strengthen the case,” Rosales told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
Boniao was abducted last September 19 by at least six armed men inside his establishment in Barangay Gusa. He was released on September 24.
However, Boniao did not give any statement about the incident.
Police later filed kidnapping charges against Abdul Raco and Malik Guro.
Raco and Guro were both residents of Barangay Madayag in Marawi City. They were identified by witnesses based on police gallery.
Also charged were Enrique Goltiao, owner of the Mitsubishi Adventure used by the suspects as getaway vehicle, and a certain “Gogong”, whom Goltiao identified as the middleman who worked for the vehicle’s sale.
Earlier, City Prosecutor Fidel Macauyag said the case is weak without Boniao’s affidavit stating that he was really kidnapped.
But Rosales said he is still hoping that Boniao will be enlightened and will cooperate with the investigation.
Boniao is now reportedly in the United States.
