Pangan: Romy @ 65
January 10, 2011
THERE will be a grand celebration at the Grand Palazzo Royale today in honor of the retiring Engr. Romeo “Romy” P. Calara, general manager of the Angeles City Water District or ACWD.
He could have stayed on for at least six more months to allow orderly transition and turnover of his duties to incoming GM Engr. Reynaldo C. Liwanag, currently the manager of the Commercial Services Department of the water district, but no, politely said GM Romy, to the urging of the members of the Board, as he now wants to focus his remaining useful years in charge of socio-civic functions, including his own soon-to-be set up foundation.
Today, friends, relatives, fellow officials, employees, peers and media people will gather to honor Engr. Romy for his 42 years of continuous and dedicated government service and celebrate his 65th birthday.
As befitting a man so loved by his fellow officers at ACWD, and previously at the Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) and Philippine Water Works Association (PWWA), Order of the Knights of Rizal, Metro Angeles City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Holy Angel University Alumni Association Inc., and Rotary and Monday Clubs, a well-crafted Audio-Visual presentation will delight the attendees to the birthday bash, courtesy of ACWD’s Tracy Salunga, Pao Lopez and other employees (KC Diaz, Lady Santos, and others), voice over stint by GV’s Jon Ericcson, dancers, music from Noel Lopez and band, catered food, unlimited supply of drinks and performances by Ate Glo and perhaps Jimmy Santos plus the gracious attendance of prominent personalities like Reghis Romero, Proceso Domingo and perhaps Second District Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who, on previous occasions, handed Engr. Romy plaques of distinction.
At 6:00 pm, a sit-down mass will be held, with Pamela T. Colle as commentator, first reading by the honoree, responsorial Psalm by acting GM Reynaldo C. Liwanag and prayers for the faithful by Tracy T. Salunga. There would be usherettes to guide guests to their tables for dinner which follows shortly after the mass.
While buffet dinner is being savored by the guests, entertainment will be provided by Quintah Band and Ms. Anne Pamintuan, if she can make it on time from Hong Kong.
The audio-visual presentation of the life story of Engr. Romy follows, showing photos from the 1950s, 1960s through 2010 with testimonials from Engr. Liwanag, former classmate Annette Yu, Lino Sanchez, Jr., brother Bonfilios, Reghis Romero, representing Knights of Rizal, one of Romy’s scholars Rebecca Ilagan, Perry Pangan, President of the Pampanga Press Club, Tess Combatir from PAWD, Rico Dimabuyu of Rotary Club of Angeles Midtown, Jane Sicat of ACWD, together with officers and employees of the facility’s Production Department, Construction Division, Commercial Services, Maintenance and Administrative Departments.
The most touching part will be the distribution of 65 blue (for senior employees) and white candles while fitting songs “Handog” and “If We Hold on Together” will highlight the lighting and blowing of the birthday candles.
Next will be the distribution of cash donations (via accompanying facsimile checks), from the celebrant to two recipient foundations: Bahay Pag-ibig and Children’s Home of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. By the way, the honoree and birthday boy is requesting donors to relay gifts to the two aforementioned donees.
Sometime after, the honoree will deliver his message of thanks to all those who came and gave the event meaning and importance.
Attendees may expect good entertainment, pulutan and drinks till the wee hours of the next day. Grand, this party is expected to be which befits the honoree.
Happy, happy birthday, good friend Romy and may you have more productive years ahead.
