Ocampo: ‘No politics in inquiry’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Councilor Joselito Ocampo said over the weekend that the inquiry he leads on the city’s financial status “is not political in nature” but aims to establish facts in accordance with transparency principles and accounting procedures.

On Thursday, Ocampo, chair of the City Council’s Committee on Good Government, Ethics and Public Accountability, spearheaded another hearing attended by city accountant Giselle Rivera, city treasurer Ann Bautista and other members of the City Finance Committee at the City Hall.

“The schedules presented to us by the city accountant were still inadequate to establish what we want in confirming the balance sheets per the general ledger. However, the city treasurer was able to secure bank certifications on cash statements. The inquiry is not meant to point a finger to or blame anyone. Rather, it is for us to be informed on the city’s assets and liabilities, know who the parties are on the receivables list, and overall, to be transparent about the city’s current financial status,” he said.

Ocampo told Sun.Star Pampanga that the inquiry is neither biased nor politicized.

“Definitely, the august body and I have no biases in this inquiry. Neither does it have political color. I personally do not mind if Fernandinos would not vote again for me in the future because of our advocacy for truth and transparency. The inquiry is plainly a fiscal exercise and done according to law,” he added.

Ocampo and members of the committee refused to divulge and make public figures and results from the last hearing.

“We still have to complete the data we want from the finance committee. The presiding officer, Vice Mayor Jimmy Lazatin, has already requested us for a final report which will be submitted to the plenary this Wednesday during the regular session. We would have to wait for that and hopefully by that time, we will be able to officially disclose the city’s financial status,” said Ocampo.
