More Arayat folk benefit in monthly medical mission

ARAYAT — Some 1,000 indigent individuals from Barangay Mapalad here, mostly children and women, were beneficiaries of last Friday’s monthly medical and dental mission sponsored by the local government.
In an interview with Sun.Star Pampanga, Mayor Luis “Chito” Espino said his constituents here received free medicines, check-up and dental services as part of the local government unit’s (LGU) efforts to bring basic health services closer to the people.
Espino said Barangay Mapalad is the 5th barangay that benefited from the medical mission. Other barangays visited by the medical teams were La Paz Turo, San Mateo, San Nicolas and Buensuceso.
He said the medical mission will be conducted in all the 30 barangays of the town, including far-flung villages, adding patients seeking other medical needs can visit the Arayat District Hospital or Rural Health Units.
Espino said the LGU has allotted some P4 million for the purchase of medicines to be used for the whole year (2011).
“Sa pakikipagtulungan nina Vice, mga konsehal at mga kapitan ay naging matagumpay ang mga medical at dental mission natin. Tuloy-tuloy nating gagawin ito hanggang matapos natin lahat ang mga 30 barangays at kung kinakailangan ay balikan pa natin sila ay gagawin natin ito,” Espino said.
The mayor said that among the priorities of the LGU is the delivery of basic health services to its constituents, in support of the plans and programs of Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda who has been very supportive to the administration of Espino.
Vice Mayor Larry Trinidad said that aside from the medical and dental mission a feeding program has also been launched to address malnutrition among elementary school pupils here.
Trinidad said the LGU has also distributed hundreds of PhilHealth cards to indigent individuals, as well as medical assistance and donations of medical equipment to the district hospital.
He said that another program launch by the local government is “Operation Tuli” were 1,500 youngsters were given free surgery at RHUs 1, 2 and 3.
Barangay Chairman Nazario Vinuya thanked Espino, Trinidad and Councilors for the much needed medical mission, saying it is very timely.
Meanwhile, Liga ng mga Barangay president Julio Espino said that a massive anti-rabies vaccination is being conducted in all the 30 barangays, adding he urged his barrio-mates to have their pet dogs vaccinated.
Also present during the medical mission were Councilors Pogi Mallari, Che Lumbang, Edith Kabigting, Pines Alejandrino, Rudy Caguiat, Executive Secretary Ador Pineda, MHO Dr. Paul Austria, RHU-2 Dr. Raul Quizon, RHU 3 Dr. Eulojio Tayag, MHO 1 Dra. Lucilla Albano, Dentist Kibanoff, Barangay Chairman Nazario Vinuya, businessman Jun Santos, soldiers of the 703rd Brigade of the Philippine Army, teachers, BHWs, local police and other barangay officials.
