‘Labuyo’ batters Aurora,landslide isolates 3 towns

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Typhoon “Labuyo” made landfall in Aurora province on Monday morning causing landslides that have isolated at least three towns.

Based on the report of the Aurora Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the typhoon made landfall around 3 a.m. Monday in Casiguran town.

Casiguran was placed under storm signal number 3 along with other towns in northern Aurora.
According to PDRRMO Engineer Cyrus Custodio, Casiguran and towns of Dinalungan and Dilasag were isolated after a landslide that blocked the road going to these towns.

In Casiguran town, at least 10 families were evacuated to a day care center in Barangay Esperanza.
In Dilasag town, at least 10 families were evacuated at the municipal hall.

For the whole of Aurora, Custodio said a total of 143 families (177 individuals) were affected by the typhoon as of 1 p.m. Monday.

At least five houses in Dipaculao town were totally damaged while another 73 houses were partially damaged.
Custodio said they have also warned residents in low-lying areas to evacuate immediately while fishermen were advised to refrain from fishing.

The whole province also experienced a blackout around 2:20 a.m. Monday.
All power suppliers in the province cannot provide electricity due to damaged electric posts.

Classes were also cancelled in all levels by Governor Gerardo Noveras.
Custodio said they are on alert status and are closely monitoring the situation in their area.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, typhoon “Labuyo’s” center was seen in the vicinity of Baguio City.
The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday morning.
