FED up with Joavan’s abusive behavior, homeowners of two upscale subdivisions in Bulacao, Talisay City have banded together to ban the adoptive son of Mayor Socrates Fernandez from entering their neighborhood.
“Before he was a nuisance. Now he becomes a threat to the homeowners and the people in the neighborhood,” Derlie Anderson, president of Vista Grande Homeowners Association, told reporters yesterday.
Joavan fired at Raymond Paran, a 19-year-old store attendant at Vista Grande’s clubhouse past 1 p.m. Tuesday for not immediately taking his order.
“We want him out through a legal process,” Anderson said.
Anderson’s call banning Joavan in the neighborhood got support from the nearby Pacific Heights subdivision whose residents also had an unpleasant experience with Joavan.
The Vista Grande and Pacific Heights, located in the hills of Bulacao, are developed by Sta. Lucia Realty Development Corp.
As complained by the subdivision residents, Joavan’s abusive acts include indiscriminate firing, overspeeding, road discourtesy and disregard for street directions.
“He drives so fast as if he owns the road,” Anderson said.
The homeowners have installed road humps to prevent Joavan from overspeeding.
Priscilla Capul, a Pacific Heights resident, complained of disturbances allegedly created by Joavan and his friends at wee hours either while having fun or fixing their vehicles at the so-called house of prayer of Mayor Socrates Fernandez.
The Capul’s house is only a few meters away from the house of prayer in Barangay Upper Candulawan, Talisay City
Last October, Capul complained to the barangay when Joavan fired a warning shot after she had accosted him for creating so much noise late at night.
She also said that Joavan gave chase when her husband, who was on the wheel, honked to prevent a collision with Joavan’s vehicle while passing by the house of prayer.
Upon reaching the corner of the highway in Bulacao, Joavan recklessly overtook them and wailed his siren apparently to intimidate them, her husband said.
Capul said the Pacific Heights homeowners have written an appeal to Mayor Fernandez to discipline Joavan but to no avail.
She said the house of prayer is not part of Vista Grande or Pacific Heights as it occupies an adjacent property of another private developer.
The house of prayer stands by the roadside whose frontage faces the access road of Pacific Heights.
Joavan is an outsider and illegitimate resident of Vista Grande or Pacific Heights, the homeowners said.
A similar call for Mayor Fernandez’s disciplining Joavan came from Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal.
“As I am always saying, I am just wondering why the good father cannot control his only son,” Vidal told reporters during a press conference.
“As a good father, he should be able to give the right direction to him,” he said.
Mayor Fernandez is a Catholic Defender.
“I pray he would be able to find ways and means to discipline his only son, as he will like to make it happen in all the families in Talisay,” Vidal said. (With BAP)
