Guv leads multi-agency meeting on rehab efforts

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda convened Tuesday heads of government agencies in Pampanga and Central Luzon to get updates and reports on rehabilitation efforts after the devastation of back-to-back typhoons.
The meeting at the Capitol was attended by officials from the National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Education, Department of Health (DOH), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Agriculture, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), municipal health officers from affected areas, representatives from water utilities, and Mayors Annette Balgan of Macabebe, Asiong Macapagal of San Luis, Jun Tetangco of Apalit, Peter Flores of Macabebe, including Candaba municipal administrator Lenny Manalo.
During the meeting, the governor requested heads of the different agencies to assist the province in recovery efforts, particularly in realigning their quick recovery funds toward priority rehabilitation areas.
“Capitol still has P60 million in calamity funds but we are reserving this for a relocation site for affected Kapampangans and more relief goods in the fourth district, inasmuch that there are reports that more typhoons in the likes of Pedring will hit Pampanga. I am requesting for your assistance in asking the National Government to realign quick recovery funds in these devastated areas since Capitol could not do this alone because of the magnitude of damages,” said Pineda.
Fresh from revisiting Mt. Arayat early that day, Pineda also directed DENR officials to re-inspect the site of a mudslide years ago during Typhoon Ondoy’s onslaught.
“I observed and received reports that boulders and water there are rolling down again. Hindi ba tapos na iyon at may mga interventions na tayo? I think you should re-inspect that at kung kailangan, mag aerial inspection tayo kasama ang DPWH,” the governor stressed.
Pineda also asked the DOH to realign emergency funds intended for medical missions to main health facilities like hospitals, as this will directly address the needs of residents needing immediate medical attention in cases of outbreaks of diseases and epidemics.
Also on Tuesday, during the center for abused women’s 30th anniversary, the governor led the inauguration of a P750,000-worth covered court and the groundbreaking of a P1.8-million 40-bed dormitory at Haven in Magalang.
