Death toll from Quiel, Pedring now at 95

MANILA—Back-to-back typhoons Quiel and Pedring have claimed at least 95 lives as damage rose to over P14 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.
As of 6 a.m., the agency listed 85 injured and 34 missing due to the storms, which caused heavy flooding in the rice-producing provinces of Tarlac, Bulacan and Pampanga last week.
More than three million people were affected by the inclement weather while nearly 109,000 are still housed in evacuation centers.
Meantime, representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are now conducting critical incident stress debriefings (CISD) typhoon victims.
The CISD is a process that prevents or limits the development of post-traumatic stress in people exposed to critical incidents such as calamities.
It also enables participants to understand that they are not alone in their reactions to a distressing event, and provides them with an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a controlled,
safe environment.
At present, DSWD has provided P6.73 million for the victims of Quiel, and prepositioned P16.49 million standby funds and P22.12 million worth of relief supplies to Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central
