Bodies of 3 soldiers now in Davao

THREE of the 19 Army Special Forces personnel who were killed in an encounter with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels in Basilan earlier this week arrived in Davao City Friday afternoon onboard a C-130 Hercules plane.
The three soldiers were identified as Sergeant Andy Bonifacio Mabalot from Magugpo East, Tagum City; Private First Class Ervin Dequito from Pigcawayan, North Cotabato; and Private Garry Colonia from Tupi, South Cotabato.
The three were given military honors by their comrades upon arrival at the tarmac and were transported to their hometowns afterward.
The three dead soldiers were part of the 41 Special Forces group who conducted an operation in Al-Barka, Basilan, last Tuesday. The said group encountered about 200 MILF rebels in the area, resulting to the death of 19 soldiers.
They were 1st Lieutenant Frank Junder Caminos from Cagayan de Oro City; 1 Lieutenant Colt Alsiyao; 1 Lieutenant Vladimir Maninang; 2 Lieutenant Jose Delfin Khe; Sergeant Ronald Sta. Rita; Corporal Roderick Cabanua; Private First Class (PFC) Ted Quiban; PFC Reny Arciaga; PFC Romel Ondovilla; PFC ROberto RecaFranka; PFC Jones Regor; PFC Jobert Miguel; PFC Jordan Olivar; PFC Eemrson Tugas; PFC Jordan Magno; and PFC Dennis Bolan.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines gave the families of each victim P250,000 from the Financial Social Fund. A full scholarship will also be provided for the children or siblings of the slain soldiers.
The Philippine Army is also giving at least P100,000 to each of the dead soldiers, along with the six-month basic pay, another P10,000 from the Special Forces Regiment, P50,000 from the MBAI, monthly pension for AFPSLAI members, and a house and lot. This is aside from the P50,000 burial assistance.
In another report, six government troops were killed in separate attacks by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Zamboanga Sibugay province on Thursday night.
Western Mindanao police director Elpedio De Asis said MILF rebels waylaid a joint police and military mobile patrol around 11:15 p.m. at Barangay Sibol, Kabasalan town.
The attack killed three policemen and wounded two, including a soldier.
Fatalities were identified as Police Inspector Rizaldy Calibugar, Senior Police Officer (PO) 1 Lito Arcenal and PO2 Lito Tayan.
Wounded were PO1 Joel Capitania and PFC Hermes Sagario of the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion.
Earlier Thursday, three government soldiers were killed in a separate encounter with the MILF guerillas.
The latest encounter between the government troops and Moro rebels took place around 7:12 p.m. at Gulayon village in Alicia town, military said.
The troops from the 102nd Infantry Brigade were on their way back to the brigade headquarters in Sanito village in Ipil town when armed men believed to be MILF rebels ambushed them.
The incident resulted to the death of Master Sergeant Saidale Dimasar, Technical Sergeant Jin-nurain Ajijul and Corporal Reynaldo Salazar and wounding of six others. Another soldier Sergeant Antonio Gerangue was reported missing.
Troops from the Army’s 13th and 19th Special Forces Company were investigating reports of rebel incursions in the area when they encountered the rebels.
