Aquino on ‘last fight vs corruption’

CLARK FREEPORT — President Benigno Aquino III said his administration is on its “last bout” against graft and corruption issues allegedly committed by the past administration.
“Tayo ho ay nasa masalimuot na huling yugto na ng ating pakikipagbakbakan laban sa mga korapsyon na iniwan ng nakaraang administrasyon,” Aquino said.
The last bout, Mr. Aquino said, is the filing of appropriate charges against personalities who were involved in corruption acts during former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s administration.
Aquino asked the help of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC), a group of religious sects, to pray for the triumph of corruption cases filed against previous officials.
The President is the guest of honor and speaker during the 29th Biennial National Assembly of the PCEC on Thursday.
Aquino was welcomed by PCEC officials, including Bishop Efraim Tendero, PCEC national director; Dr. Andrew Liuson, PCEC chairman; Dr. Glenn Obligacion, chairman of iHELP; and some other 250 leaders of denominations and para-church and missions organizations from all over the country.
The assembly was held at the Terra Tent of Hotel Vida in Clark.
During the President’s engagement, Bishop Tendero presented, through an audio-visual presentation, an overview of the varied programs and projects of PCEC that are all geared toward transforming the nation.
Bible was also given to Aquino as a present, courtesy of the Philippine Bible Association.
The President underscored the importance of uniting with religious sectors in the administration’s continuous fight against the culture of corruption and impunity, in accordance with the mandate of the government.
“We look upon our shepherds of faith to inculcate ideals, values and morals that would help us all act as conscientious and responsible citizens,” Aquino said.
