Pelco 1 translates discounts to lower rates

MEXICO — The Pampanga 1 Electric Cooperative (Pelco 1) has successfully translated some P39.7 million in prompt payment and performance discounts to lower rates, or just P.024 per kilowatt hour for its member consumer-members.
This was disclosed on Sunday by Pelco 1 officials during the power cooperative’s 29th Annual General Membership assembly at its headquarters in this town, where close to 3,000 consumers converged for an afternoon of information, fun and prizes.
The “giving back to consumers” event came complete with food, performances by Pelco 1 employees, consumer-members from Arayat, Mexico, Magalang, San Luis, Sta. Ana and Candaba, who all vied for 218 raffle prizes, which included six Pangkabuhayan Tricycles and valuable appliances plus grocery packages.
Pelco 1 officials revealed that the millions of pesos worth of discounts have since been given back to its consumer-members in the forms of good service and low rates, including a gradual decrease in its systems loss, from 30 percent in 2000 to just 9.6 percent last year.
“We are very much glad to bring this back to you in the form of good service, low rates and many more for your benefit,” said Pelco 1 General Manager Loliano Allas.
Other accomplishments noted during the assembly included the completion of the firm’s evacuation center cum multi-purpose covered court and the construction of its own broadband, plus its corporate social responsibility programs focusing on the environment.
San Luis Mayor Venancio Macapagal, who disclosed that he was once a lineman and director at Pelco 1, thanked the consumer-members for their support, saying the cooperative has been vital in his town’s growth.
The same sentiments were echoed by Arayat Councilor Monching Changcoco, who delivered a message in behalf of 3rd District Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales, Jr.
“Congressman Dong Gonzales expresses his sincere support for Pelco 1 and its consumers. He is ready to help in its needs anytime,” said Chancoco.
A number of consumer-members reached by Sun.Star Pampanga revealed that they have no complaints regarding Pelco 1, and were “very much satisfied” with its service.
