6 dead, 1 missing in Maring’s path

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Six people were killed while one was reported missing in Central Luzon due to continuous heavy rains dumped by the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm “Maring” since Sunday.

Combined data from the provincial and regional disaster risk Reduction and management councils (DRRMC) as of 3 a.m. Wednesday identified the casualties as Lodigario Parado Plasilo, 53, of Barangay Kaingin, Meycauayan City, Bulacan and Roman Sanchez, 29, of Barangay Sta. Maria, Lubao, Pampanga;
Jeric Sorgello from Barangay Alas-asin, Mariveles, Bataan; Renato Roman Lacsamana, a resident of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Lubao, Pampanga; Jian Charles Centeno of Barangay Canalate, Malolos City, Bulacan; and Justin Viray of Barangay Sta. Lucia Paguiba, Minalin, Pampanga.

Lacsamana and Yumul were drowned at the height of flash floods in their area, while Sanchez was electrocuted.
The missing person was identified as Rodrigo Telles, 69, of Barangay General Luna, Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, who reportedly drowned last Monday.

The RDRRMC data also showed that a total of 143,374 families or 670,186 persons in 38 municipalities or 432 barangays in the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales were displaced as a result of the intermittent heavy rains that battered the region since Sunday night.
At present, a total of 2,680 families or 11,206 persons in these flood-hit provinces in the region are temporarily housed in 127 evacuation centers.

As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, a total of 187 barangays in the 16 towns of Pampanga, namely Apalit, Bacolor, Masantol, Macabebe, Lubao, Guagua, San Simon, Minalin, Floridablanca, Candaba, Bacolor, Sasmuan, Sta. Rita, Porac, Sto. Tomas and the City of San Fernando remained under one to five-foot deep floodwater.

A total of 41,761 families or 189,336 individuals were affected in the flooded towns in Pampanga wherein 1,306 families or 5,610 persons were in various evacuation centers in the province.

In Bulacan, 81 barangays in the towns of Marilao, Calumpit, Pulilan, Hagonoy, Obando, Bocaue, and in the cities of Malolos and Meycauayan are still submerged in one to four-feet deep floods due to high tide, displacing 46,772 families or 231,554 individuals.

The Marilao-Meycauayan boundary has remained not passable to light vehicles.
In Bataan, 35 barangays in the towns of Hermosa, Dinalupihan, Orani, Pilar, Samal and Abucay remained flooded from one to four feet deep water.
A total of 53,340 families or persons 242,745 were affected when the province’s 147 barangays were submerged to floodwaters.

In Tarlac, 11 barangays in Camiling, Capas, Paniqui and San Clemente are still under three feet deep floods.
Barangays Bueno and Maruglo in Capas town remained isolated while floodwater in Barangay Barang in Paniqui is starting to rise, the RDRRMC report said.
In Zambales, 22 barangays in Iba, Palauig, Masinloc and Olongapo City remained flooded.

A province-wide state of calamity was already declared in Bataan and Pampanga.
Pampanga provincial disaster risk reduction management officer Angelina Blanco said relief goods and sandbags have been prepared by the provincial government.

Tarlac City was also placed under state of calamity.
